Do I need a trade licence?
Would you like to work in the field of promotion, hostess, Event and sales advice, you do not need a trade licence. In fact, since 1 April 2017, it is no longer permitted by law to charge for these activities via a trade licence and the creation of an invoice. You must be employed as an employee and be covered by social insurance if you wish to carry out activities in the following areas:
- Promotion
- Hostesses
- Event
- Sales advice
Of course, this also has some advantages for you. In the "Promoter FAQ" & "Hostess FAQ" you will find a lot of helpful and important information about things to consider.
Which billing models are no longer permitted?
In the areas of PromotionIn the case of events, trade fairs and sales advice, invoicing "on a trade licence" and "for own account" is no longer permitted. Personnel in this area are considered dependent employees. Employment subject to social insurance contributions is unavoidable.
Companies that do not adhere to this and continue to invoice in this way are even liable to prosecution because they are feigning bogus self-employment. Fictitious self-employment falls into the area of Undeclared work. Promoters and hostesses have the option of subsequently claiming the rights and benefits of an employment relationship.
If you decide in favour of TRUST Promotion, you are on the safe side. We will of course pay all taxes (income tax and solidarity surcharge) to the tax office.
When does self-employment exist?
In our "Promoter FAQ" & "Hostess FAQ" we have listed all the indicators and characteristics for proper self-employment. Not all of the listed characteristics have to match. If you take a look at the points, you will quickly realise that promotion or hostess jobs do not fall within the scope of self-employment.
Self-employment - overview of delimitation criteria
- Instructions from other persons do not have to be followed.
- The design of the actuation is freely definable.
- All work is carried out at your own risk and responsibility.
- The employment is carried out with the intention of making a profit.
- There is no economic or personal dependence on the client.
Indicators for self-employment
- The working hours are freely selectable.
- Attendance is not checked.
- The place of work can also be determined.
- There is no prescribed clothing.
- Payment is made on commission.
- There are several clients.
What is the 70-day rule all about?
If the employment is to be Short-term employment the employee may work a maximum of 70 days per calendar year. Employment is possible for a maximum of 3 months at a time. But how are the working days taken into account for the 70-day rule? In principle, all days worked are added together. It is irrelevant on which days the work was completed. They are added together:
- Weekdays
- Weekends
- Public holidays
If the final payroll shows that you have worked not just 70 but 71 days, regular social security contributions must be paid. You can find detailed information on this in our article "The extension of the 70-day rule - what students need to know"
How old do you have to be to work at TRUST Promotion?
There is also a minimum age requirement to start working as a promoter or hostess at TRUST Promotion. The minimum age for starting this job is 18. It is a good opportunity for students, for example, to earn money in addition to their studies.
How is payment in the trade fair, promotion and events sector?
There are some differences in terms of pay for jobs as a promoter, Host / Hostessmodel or Helping Hand. Ultimately, payment depends on many different factors. These include:
- Requirements
- Place of use
- Operating times
- Duration of use
We at TRUST Promotion offer good pay. The hourly wage is usually between 11 and 13 euros. Occasionally, there are also above-average paid jobs for promoters and hostesses that are billed at 16 or 17 euros per hour.
I often get rejections or no offers. Are there specific reasons for this?
Of course, it is always annoying when cancellations arrive or no offers appear at all. This can be due to various things. Here we show you how we proceed in the selection process. Here we give you an overview of the decisive factors for rejections and few offers.
Basically, we take the following approach when so many applicants have applied for a job:
- Selection of sedcard according to job profile
- Customers are offered suggestions for applicants
- Customer assesses and selects personnel
There are a few things you can pay attention to in order to stand out from the crowd and receive as many offers as possible. The most common reasons for rejection include the following points:
- Sedcard is not up to date
- Sedcard is not appealing enough
- Job only intended for regional people
You are also welcome to read our article "How do I get the best jobs as a host/hostess or promoter?" about the right approach to the sedcard. With an optimal Sedcard you have a good chance of finding exciting jobs.
But you should also ask and answer a few questions yourself. Customers always look very closely because they want to be able to rely on the staff. How can you answer the following questions?
- Have you often turned up late?
- Have you often cancelled at short notice in the past?
- Did the last job not go as smoothly as it should have?
Put yourself in the customer's shoes. What do you think the customer does when he learns of unreliability? Exactly. They will most likely opt for something else. Personnel decide. reliability is the be-all and end-all in this job. Anyone who has already attracted negative attention in this respect will have less chance of employment.
Why should I definitely come to the casting?
A casting is an ideal opportunity to put yourself in the right light and convince others. If you come to the Castingyou can not only convince us, but also some customers. It is usually the case that clients have specific ideas about the charisma for a particular job. The customer wants to see for themselves in the casting to see if it really fits. If you don't turn up to the audition, you're wasting your chances.
Do I need to prepare for the casting?
The Casting can be regarded as a job interview. A certain amount of preparation is therefore important. A well-groomed appearance is one of the most important preparations. You should also be fresh, punctual, motivated and smiling. If you present yourself well and are prepared, you have the best chance of landing the job.
Is there anything I need to bear in mind regarding the photos I want to upload for the sedcard?
There are a few points to consider regarding the photos for the sedcard. Here in the "Promoter FAQ" & "Hostess FAQ" you will get a brief overview of this area. The sedcard is a kind of business card and should be designed accordingly. Photos are generally part of the Sedcard and must not be missing. But they have to be the right pictures. Preferably upload different and, above all, current pictures. The following photos are important:
- Image in the serious Outfit
- Full body shots
- Portrait picture
- loose photo
When we talk about a casual photo, we don't mean party pics. We just want to see how versatile you are and whether you look good in a wide variety of outfits, from casual and light to extravagant. Professional photos are preferable. In our Article "Perfect sedcard picture" explains what an optimal image should look like.
Do I really have to fill in everything on the sedcard?
Of course, you don't have to do anything. However, your chances of getting a job increase significantly if you complete all the points. The more you fill in, the better it is for you. A well-completed sedcard means:
greater chances of getting a cool job
Certainly, it takes a certain amount of time to complete the entire Sedcard to fill out. But the time invested is usually worth it. Experience shows that people forget to fill out the sedcard completely afterwards. If you are registered with several agencies, you will quickly lose the overview.
Can I also join TRUST Promotion as a student?
We welcome all people who would like to earn extra money by working as hostesses/hosts or promoters and who can identify with these tasks. A minimum age is required. Students are normally 18, so you are welcome to send us an application or register with us and hope for a great job alongside your studies or during the semester break.
What happens if I have to cancel a job at short notice?
Of course, it's not a good thing when a job that has already been accepted is cancelled. However, it also depends on the circumstances and the cancellation time. A cancellation at very short notice always reflects badly on you. Of course, if you get a fever of 40 overnight and are unable to work due to illness, that's not great, but it probably won't have a negative impact straight away. However, if the cancellations pile up, the chances of getting a job are not really good. It would be nice if you could cancel in good time so that a replacement can be organised.
Can I also take on a promotion job alongside my main job?
We would like to answer this question in our "Promoter FAQ" & "Hostess FAQ". A promotional job is classed as short-term employment and must not be used to finance your livelihood. It is therefore necessary to do the job alongside your main job. You may need permission from your main employer to earn additional income. In addition, the two jobs must not conflict in terms of time.
Are there also nationwide or international jobs? Or are only regional offers available?
We offer a wide range of jobs, so that not only regional, but also nationwide and even international jobs are available. However, some customers specify that they only want staff from the local area. But there are also offers without such specifications.
Am I allowed to pursue the employment professionally?
Unfortunately, it is not possible to work as a host/hostess or promoter on a professional basis. Professionally means that the activity is carried out to earn a living. Employment is only possible in the following situations:
- there is a main occupation
- you are a pupil or student over the age of 18
- High school graduates who would like to start a degree programme
But what counts as your main occupation? If you are already employed by a company or are currently completing an apprenticeship, this counts as your main occupation. Full-time interns and full-time self-employed persons also fall into this category.
What do I need to consider with regard to tax?
One of our tasks is to pay income tax and solidarity surcharge. There is a basic tax-free allowance per year. If you remain below the limit, you can reclaim the amounts paid by submitting an income tax return.
Can I also work several short-term jobs?
Of course, you can also have several short-term jobs. However, you must note that the working days of all jobs must be added together. They must not exceed a total of 70 working days. As a small example:
You work for Employer 1 as a hostess for a total of two months, four days a week. This is a total of 36 working days. The first employment is undoubtedly to be regarded as short-term employment, as the three months in the calendar year are not exceeded.
If you take on a second job, this must be considered in connection with the first job. This means that the working days with the second employer must be added to the 36 days. If there are only 34 working days with employer 2, there are 70 days, so the employment can also be regarded as short-term. However, if you work for the second employer for 35 or 36 days, for example, this cannot be interpreted as short-term employment. In this case, "normal" employment would be required.
What should I bring with me to work as a host/hostess or promoter?
In order to become active in this field, there are of course a few things that are necessary, which we would like to briefly mention here in the "Promoter FAQ" & "Hostess FAQ". A certain charisma is the be-all and end-all. You need to be communicative, self-confident and convincing. Friendliness, reliability and a well-groomed appearance are important.
